MAXTRAX XTREME is the heavy-duty board in the MAXTRAX range: the same reinforced engineering-grade nylon body, with 88 replaceable hard-anodized alloy teeth in place of molded lugs. Built for people who use boards hard and often, it carries a lifetime warranty. Sold as a pair, in Signature Orange — the color MAXTRAX is known for.

Orange is the one you find again. Signature Orange is the easiest board in the range to pick out of a churned-up recovery site — behind the vehicle, half-buried, or lit by nothing but a headlamp. On the XTREME it does a second job. The teeth are the part worth checking before you commit to a pull, and dark alloy heads against bright orange read at a glance: a missing or chewed tooth shows up from standing height, not on your hands and knees.

What 88 replaceable teeth actually buy you. On a conventional board the molded lugs are the wear item, and once they are rounded off the board is finished — you buy another pair. The XTREME moves the wear into 88 alloy teeth you back out and replace with the XTRACT Insert Tool, so the board keeps working. A set of teeth costs a fraction of a pair of boards. That math is what makes the XTREME make sense for someone using boards weekly, not twice a year.

  • Most people should buy the MKII. The MKII is lighter, stacks shorter, and does the same job. Choose the XTREME only if you use boards hard and often, or have a mission-critical need for a board that will not break.
  • The teeth cut both ways. Alloy teeth are effectively bulletproof, but they carry an increased risk of tire damage if you do not know what you are doing. Ease on in your lowest gear, barely any throttle.
  • Bright, and honest about it. Signature Orange is the easiest MAXTRAX to find at night or in blowing dust. It is not subtle on a roof rack.
  • Lifetime warranty, and we rarely see one come back. The failure we do see is bridging in very cold weather with a hard impact. MAXTRAX has always taken care of it.

Mounting these? One Universal Mounting Pin now fits the whole MAXTRAX range, leaving two choices: thread length — 17 mm for bracket mounting, including every bracket we sell, or 40 mm through a camper panel — and capacity, a two-board pin or a four-board pin if you run two sets.

More recovery gear and traction board mounts.

Not sure the XTREME is the board you need? We were MAXTRAX’s original U.S. distributor and have stocked the brand since it reached the United States. The full range sits in our warehouse in Prescott, Arizona rather than a drop-shipper’s. So we can compare an XTREME against an MKII in hand, and talk you out of the step up if your driving does not call for it.
