MAXTRAX MKII are the recovery boards most people should buy. Wedge a pair under your drive tires and you drive yourself out of sand, mud or snow — no winch, no second vehicle, no waiting for someone to come find you. They are the original design, made in Australia from reinforced engineering-grade nylon, and they carry a lifetime warranty. Sold as a pair, in Signature Orange.
Why boards before a winch. A winch needs an anchor, and the places people actually get stuck rarely have one — open sand, a snowed-in forest road, a rutted two-track with nothing but scrub for a mile. Boards work anywhere, weigh a fraction of a winch setup, and have you moving in a couple of minutes instead of twenty minutes of rigging. For most drivers a pair of boards and a shovel prevents more bad days than any other recovery gear you can buy.
Using them well takes less muscle than people expect. Clear the sand or snow from in front of each drive tire, push the board in until the ramped end is under the tread, then pull away in the lowest gear you have with barely any throttle. Wheelspin is what damages boards and digs you deeper — slow and steady is the whole technique. Clip the included Telltale leashes on first and you will find the boards again once they are buried behind you.
- The honest default. Step up to the XTREME only if you use boards hard and often — recovery work, driver training, racing. Most people never need to.
- Lighter, and stacks shorter than the XTREME. On a roof rack or a spare-tire mount, that height difference is the one you notice every day.
- Bright is better at 2am. Color is mostly personal preference, but a dark board is hard to find at night, and Desert Tan is hard to find in sand.
- Lifetime warranty, and we rarely see one come back. The failure we do see is bridging in very cold weather with a hard impact. MAXTRAX has always taken care of it.

Mounting these? One Universal Mounting Pin now fits the whole MAXTRAX range, leaving two choices: thread length — 17 mm for bracket mounting, including every bracket we sell, or 40 mm through a camper panel — and capacity, a two-board pin for this pair alone or a four-board pin if you run two sets.

Not sure what you need? Ask us. We were MAXTRAX’s original U.S. distributor and have stocked the brand since it first came to the United States. The full range sits in our warehouse in Prescott, Arizona rather than a drop-shipper’s, so we can tell you which mount suits your rack, how many boards your rig will actually carry, and what to do differently in sand than in snow.
