Overland Kitted was founded by husband-and-wife team Matthew Scott and Laura Chain, with a simple goal: to offer the world’s finest overlanding equipment — gear we’ve trusted on adventures across the globe, and gear you can trust on yours. When you email or call, you’re reaching real people — not a call center — and more often than not, it’s one of us on the other end.
Our story started with Adventure Imports in 2015, where we became the exclusive importer of MAXTRAX and other leading overlanding brands from Australia and South Africa. For nearly a decade, we helped equip North America’s best retailers, enthusiasts, and explorers with the tools they needed to travel further and safer. Today, Overland Kitted is the next chapter: a direct connection between our real-world experience and the gear we personally stand behind.
What sets Overland Kitted apart is more than just experience — it’s an insider’s understanding of the gear and the industry. Matt has spent over 15 years not only leading international expeditions but also professionally testing and reviewing equipment for trusted outlets like Overland Journal, Expedition Portal, Outside Magazine, Field Ethos, Unsealed 4X4, 4X4 Australia, TREAD Magazine, and Gear Junkie. As a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and co-host of the Overland Journal Podcast, he brings a tested, critical eye to everything we carry — because he’s depended on this gear in the field.
Laura brings a different but equally valuable perspective. As a trained wildlife biologist and lifelong outdoor enthusiast, she’s spent countless nights under the stars — whether mountain biking remote backroads, backpacking through national parks, or navigating overland routes across six continents alongside Matt. Her love of nature and her meticulous attention to detail shape everything from our product selection to the customer experience you receive.
Our small team is based in Prescott, Arizona, where we operate our own warehouse and fulfillment center. Whether it’s gear shipping from our shelves or carefully managed partner inventory, every product is handled by people who know the equipment and the lifestyle it supports. We’re here to get you outfitted quickly, reliably, and with the kind of personal service we believe should be standard.
