Static Recovery Ropes
Static recovery gear is the opposite of kinetic: it does not stretch, and that is exactly the point. When you are winching, towing on a hard surface, or anchoring to a tree, you want the load applied steadily rather than sprung.
Tree savers from Agency 6, ARB and RotoPax, ARB winch extension straps, and Yankum Ropes bridles and slings. A tree saver is the wide strap you wrap around a trunk so the winch line does not cut into the bark — it protects the tree, and it keeps you legal in most parks. A bridle spreads the load across two recovery points instead of one.
The rule to remember: never snatch on a static strap — there is nowhere for the energy to go except into your recovery points. For straps designed to stretch, see kinetic recovery ropes.
