MAXTRAX MKII Black Recovery Boards

MAXTRAX MKII are the recovery boards most people should buy, and Black is the one that keeps them from being the first thing you notice on the rig. Wedge a pair under your drive tires and you drive yourself out of sand, mud or snow — no winch, no second vehicle. Made in Australia from reinforced engineering-grade nylon, sold as a pair, lifetime warranty.

Black is what you buy when you would rather not see the boards. On a rack it disappears into the build instead of two slabs of orange plastic on the truck, and the nylon is UV stable, so it holds its finish instead of going chalky the way people fear black plastic does. The honest cost: this is the hardest color in the range to find once it is buried behind you or dropped at night. Clip the Telltale leashes on every time — they matter more on Black than on any other color.

Most people leave them mounted, so plan for that. Boards ride on a roof rack, a bed rack or a spare-tire mount, and because the material is UV stable they can live outside year-round. Two things to settle before you drill. Mounted boards are visible to everyone in a parking lot, so mounting pins with locking hardware are worth thinking about. And stack height, not weight, decides whether you still clear your garage door — measure the rack, add 3.5" per board, and check first.

• The honest default. MKII is enough for most people. Step up to the XTREME only if you use boards hard and often — recovery work, driver training, racing.
• Black hides on the trail as well as it hides on the rack. That is the trade you are making. In mud, in a snowbank or after dark, a black board takes real hunting. Leashed, it takes seconds.
• Lifetime warranty, and we rarely see one come back. The failure we do see is bridging in very cold weather with a hard impact. MAXTRAX has always taken care of it.
• Six handles and a shovel end. Grab a board anywhere along its length with gloves on, and each end doubles as a scoop for clearing in front of the tire.
