J-Hook Soft Shackle

Steel J-hooks have been the towing-and-recovery standby for decades. We built a better one: a lightweight, closed-loop synthetic J that grabs where metal struggles and stays calm if something lets go under load.

The J-Hook Soft Shackle is braided and spliced in-house, then jacketed in a heavy-duty two-part polymer. One leg of the rigid chafe sleeve is intentionally longer, so it places cleanly on undercarriages, axle housings and rims where a standard soft shackle will not sit.

Why run a J-Hook over a steel hook

• Lighter and faster to stage in tight spaces than a heavy steel hook
• Closed-loop connection reduces hard-metal ricochet risk if something fails
• Conforms to awkward geometry and bites where rigid metal fights you
• Easier on your gear through off-axis pulls

A note on the rating: Yankum has not yet published a certified breaking strength for the J-Hook Soft Shackle, so we will not print a number we cannot stand behind. Tell us your vehicle and the rope you run and we will point you to the right size. Contact us for sizing.

Size to the recovery vehicle

As with all recovery gear, size the shackle to the rig doing the pulling, not the one that is stuck.

Ideal uses

• Off-road recovery — trucks, Jeeps, SXS/ATV, overlanding rigs
• Professional towing and utility work
• Limited-access or tricky angles under the vehicle

Use and care

• Attach only to rated recovery points; avoid tow balls and unrated mounts
• Inspect for abrasion or fiber damage before each use; keep it off sharp edges
• Rinse grit after muddy or sandy pulls and dry fully before storing
• Store out of prolonged UV and away from sharp or hot surfaces

Safety note: keep everyone clear of the load path and lay a dampener over the line during a pull.
