MAXTRAX LITE are the boards you carry because you might need them, not because you plan to. Wedge a pair under your drive tires and you drive yourself out of sand, mud or snow — no winch, no second vehicle. Made in Australia, lifetime warranty, sold as a pair in black: the quietest color in the range, and the hardest to spot in the dark.

Polyurethane instead of nylon, and what that buys you. The MKII, XTREME and Mini are reinforced engineering-grade nylon. The LITE is polyurethane — still very durable, still on the same lifetime warranty, and meaningfully cheaper. It is also the lightest full-function board in the range: 4 lb each against the MKII's 7.5. The honest trade-off is length. At 35 inches it is 10 inches shorter than an MKII, so you get less run under the tire — which matters most in deep soft sand, where a longer board carries you further per placement.

Who should buy the LITE instead of the MKII. The driver who wants boards aboard as insurance and doesn't expect to use them often. Anyone counting pounds or inches — a roof rack near its rated load, a small SUV, a bed already full. Anyone kitting out a second vehicle, a trailer, or a partner's rig. We reach for the LITEs when we just want something to get us out. If you regularly get properly stuck in deep sand, the extra length of the MKII is worth the money.

  • The honest ladder. LITE for occasional use and weight-sensitive builds; the MKII is enough board for most people; the XTREME only if you use boards hard and often.
  • Black hides, for better and worse. It reads as part of the rack rather than an advertisement, and it is the hardest color to find again in a rut after dark.
  • Lifetime warranty, and we rarely see one come back. The failure we do see is bridging in very cold weather with a hard impact. MAXTRAX has always taken care of it.
  • 66 teeth, four handles, a shovel at each end. The short body gets an extra pair of grab points, so it is easier to place one-handed while you are down in a rut.

Mounting them? A single Universal Mounting Pin now covers the whole MAXTRAX range, leaving two things to decide: thread length — 17 mm for bracket mounting, which is every bracket we sell, or 40 mm through a camper panel — and capacity, a two-board pin for this pair alone or a four-board pin if you carry two sets.

More recovery gear and traction board mounts.

Not sure the LITE is enough board for your rig? Ask us. We were MAXTRAX's original U.S. distributor and have stocked the brand since it first came to the United States, and the whole range sits in our Prescott, Arizona warehouse rather than a drop-shipper's — so we can weigh a LITE against an MKII in hand and tell you which one fits.
