If you’ve ever removed your MAXTRAX® from your roof rack only to find yourself staring at the sharp, exposed ends of the mounting pins—you’re not alone. For years, we’ve dealt with this exact problem. You want your boards off for the commute, or to fit in a parking garage, or just to keep them out of the elements—but the pins are still there, sticking straight up like a pair of antennas. Unless you grab tools and unbolt the entire system, your overall vehicle height doesn’t actually change.
That’s why we made the Overland Kitted Stealth Folding MAXTRAX® Mount. It’s the cleanest, most adaptable way to run recovery boards when you need them, and fold everything away when you don’t—no tools required.
Smart, Adaptable, and Made in the USA
Built from stainless steel and manufactured in Prescott, Arizona, this bracket folds smoothly into four user-configurable positions:
• Raised, with pins facing inward
• Raised, with pins facing outward
• Flush-style, with pins facing inward
• Flush-style, with pins facing outward
The pins rotate on pressed-in steel pivots that prevent over-rotation, keeping them rattle-free and secure—both when deployed and when folded.
Why We Love It
We built this to help our Ineos Grenadier finally fit into the airport parking garage—and haven’t looked back. It’s quiet, clean, and lets you remove your MAXTRAX® without having to unbolt a thing. It’s also ideal for reducing long-term UV exposure and wind drag when your boards aren’t needed. Fewer accessories on your roof. More function from your gear.
Low-Profile, But Fitment Matters
When folded, the Stealth Mount sits nearly flush with most roof rack crossbars and often tucks below the raised side rails of common systems like Prinsu, Front Runner, or Rhino Rack. But for this to work in the low-profile orientation, your rack must meet the following spacing requirements:
• Crossbars must be less than 7 inches wide
• You must have 12 inches of spacing between the adjacent slats next to your mount
If your rack doesn’t meet those numbers? No problem. Just run the raised configuration, which adds 1.25 inches of clearance—still compact, still low-profile, and compatible with virtually every rack on the market.
Let’s Talk About Spacing
This isn’t just a design constraint of our bracket—it’s a limitation of the MAXTRAX® mounting system itself. Because MAXTRAX mounting pins are spaced at a fixed distance and require clearance for the boards to drop down and lock in, your roof rack needs enough room between slats to allow proper alignment and pin rotation. We designed the Stealth Mount to provide the minimum possible rise while still accommodating that spec.
More Than Just Folding Pins
By folding the pins away, you’re not just lowering your profile—you’re regaining full use of your roof rack. Slide gear across your rack without snagging. Mount low-profile cargo boxes. Keep your roof sleek and trail-ready when boards aren’t needed. And if you run a vehicle with garage clearance issues (looking at you, Jeep and Grenadier owners), you finally have a tool-free way to get under the bar.
