The Sterling Power PDARW Pro Reg DW is an IP67 waterproof, advanced digital alternator regulator designed to convert a standard constant-voltage alternator into a full 4-stage progressive constant-current battery charger. The result is dramatically faster battery charging, fuller state of charge, longer battery life, and significantly more usable capacity from every amp-hour in your bank.

A standard alternator is designed to start and maintain an engine battery, not to fully charge a deep-cycle house bank. Left to its own devices, a conventional alternator will typically charge a battery to around 75% capacity before tapering off — leaving the bottom 25–30% of usable capacity permanently unavailable. The PDARW changes that by taking direct control of the alternator's field winding and commanding it through bulk, absorption, and float stages, just like a mains-powered battery charger. Depending on the original system, charge rates can improve by 4 to 20 times.

The PDARW supports both positive and negative field control alternators and is compatible with 12V and 24V systems. It includes two temperature sensors — one for the alternator and one for the battery — with automatic thermal protection that reduces output if the alternator approaches its temperature limits, then resumes charging once it cools. The IP67 waterproof rating and ignition-protected design make it suitable for harsh marine and off-road environments.

Important compatibility note: Advanced alternator regulators are not suitable for modern vehicles or boats with integrated engine management systems (Euro 5/6+, regenerative braking, smart alternators). Increasing the alternator voltage on these systems can trigger fault codes or damage ECU components. For modern vehicles, Sterling's Battery to Battery (BB) Saturn series is the correct solution.
