The Sterling Power BBC1225 Wildside is a purpose-built DC-DC battery charger designed specifically for caravan and trailer charging applications. It installs into the existing 12V charge cable between the tow vehicle and the caravan, delivering a full 4-stage charge to the caravan battery at up to 25A — a dramatic improvement over the 2–3A that typically trickles through a standard 7-pin or 13-pin socket connection.

Modern tow vehicles with Euro 5/6+ engines and regenerative braking systems are particularly problematic for caravan charging. These vehicles actively suppress alternator output when the battery is sensed as full, which means the caravan battery receives almost no charge while towing. The BBC1225 bypasses this problem entirely by using its own buck-boost charging intelligence to pull current regardless of the tow vehicle's battery management behavior — delivering consistent, regulated charging throughout the journey.

The BBC1225 output is split across two channels of 12.5A each, allowing it to be wired directly into the vehicle's existing harness without requiring a dedicated heavy cable run. It supports multiple battery chemistries and includes mode select options for 12V-only fridges and 12V/230V fridge configurations. Wildside mode allows the 12V fridge to run directly from the charger's output while charging the battery simultaneously — keeping the fridge cold on the road without draining the caravan battery.
