Three gallons — the size most people land on when one 2-gallon pack isn't enough range and a 4-gallon is more weight than they want hanging off the back of the rig.

The only roto-molded fuel container CARB will certify

Plenty of gas cans carry a CARB certificate. RotoPax is the only rotationally moulded one — every other certified container is blow- or injection-moulded, a cheaper process with a thinner, less impact-tolerant wall. RotoPax meets CARB's permeability limit through a patented three-layer process, with a specially formulated barrier material built into the wall to stop fuel vapour migrating through the plastic.

The white tube in the neck is the Flame Mitigation Device — legally required, prevents flame jetting. Removing it voids the warranty.

Mounting — note the extension

The 3-gallon takes a dedicated 3 Gallon Extension for stacking. The standard extension will not fit it. Remember: the extension you need is set by the bottom can in the stack.

Venting — read this before your first trip

Vent at least once a day, and again for every 10°F of temperature change or every 1,000 ft of elevation gain. Failing to vent will deform the container and voids the fuel-container warranty. Store it completely full or completely empty.
