GEN 1 vs GEN 2 — which do you want?

Identical capacity, identical dimensions. The GEN 2 has a flat bottom. The GEN 1 has an interlocking bottom, which lets two 2-gallon containers lock together and occupy the exact footprint of a single 4-gallon pack.

So: if you want to run one can on a mount, or you want a clean flat base, take the GEN 2. If you want to pair two 2-gallon cans — say, one gasoline and one water — into a single 4-gallon footprint, you want the GEN 1.

The only roto-molded fuel container CARB will certify

Plenty of gas cans carry a CARB certificate. RotoPax is the only rotationally moulded one — every other certified container is blow- or injection-moulded, a cheaper process with a thinner wall. RotoPax hits CARB's permeability limit using a patented three-layer process with a formulated barrier material built into the wall.

The white tube in the neck is the Flame Mitigation Device — legally required, prevents flame jetting. Removing it voids the warranty.

Mounting

Venting — read this before your first trip

Vent at least once a day, and again for every 10°F of temperature change or every 1,000 ft of elevation gain. Failing to vent will deform the container and voids the fuel-container warranty. Store the can completely full or completely empty — a quarter-full can holds the most vapour and expands hardest.
