Insane RAM 2500 Camper Prototype

Insane RAM 2500 Camper Prototype

Before you is a digital render of a project created by Vantaggio. Previously an architect firm, the VDS is the company’s first dip into the world of off road camper design, and I’d say they knocked it out of the park, at least conceptually. VDS stands for “Veicoli Di Spedizione”, which according to Google translate means “shipping vehicles”. Certainly not the best descriptor for what the VDS is, perhaps something is lost in translation. Either way, we’ll just stick to calling it the VDS.

The digital prototype Ventaggio dropped on our desk is mounted to a 4WD RAM 2500 chassis, but could be adapted to other chassis truck chassis. The RAM was chosen due to its popularity in Chile, the company’s home turf, and the first customer happened to want it on a RAM chassis.

Company founder, Giovanni Barbieri Ballocchi is an architect who has been designing and building houses for nearly fifteen years. Recently, he began adding vehicles to the list of his creations. Particularly, agricultural, forestry, mining and others. So, it’s not much of a stretch to dip into the waters of the exploding expedition market. The VDS is intended to be highly customizable in terms of dimensions, equipment, accessories and aesthetics and can be configured to fit a multitude of platforms including midsize and full size rigs.

The overall wheelbase will check in at 199” after performing a frame stretch in house. The subframe will consist of a three point pivot torsion system that will allow the frame to truck frame to articulate without twisting the cabin. The cabin will be constructed from a continuous steel coil sheet with a high density EPS nucleus. The cabin mold was developed to be modular to allow for different lengths depending on the needs of the customer. The cabin that is modeled here, is 6,250mm long, 2,400mm wide and 2,200mm tall.
