toyota-tacoma-mountain-hatch-2005-2023
Mountain Hatch Tailgate Cutting Board & Table for 2005-2023 Toyota Tacoma (2nd & 3rd Gen)

The Mountain Hatch Tailgate Table for the 2005-2023 Toyota Tacoma is the product that started the brand: a 1/2-inch sheet of food-grade HDPE, cut to the shape of the second- and third-gen Tacoma tailgate, that turns the ribbed factory plastic into a flat prep counter. It is the least expensive panel in the Mountain Hatch range and the one with the longest track record on Tacomas.

Pick the version that matches how you camp. The recessed-pocket version adds drink holders and a 1/4-inch-deep utility tray that keeps a phone, headlamp, knife or onion trimmings from sliding off the gate; the original flat version is one uninterrupted slab for people who want maximum cutting and work area. Either way you get a surface that shrugs off a Jetboil, a camp stove or a cooler, is easy to wipe down, and uses the factory tailgate panel's mounting points, so there is no drilling. Mountain Hatch is a small shop in Riverside, California. Panels are machine-cut, hand-finished and made to order, which means a wait between ordering and the panel being ready.

Two trade-offs worth knowing. First, HDPE is cutting-board plastic: it scratches under a hard knife stroke and gets slippery when wet. Second, the panel adds weight to the tailgate, so the factory damper will let the gate drop a little faster than it did; Mountain Hatch is upfront that it stays controlled and does not slam. It is a work surface, not armor, so do not expect it to stiffen the gate.

Specifications

Fits

2005-2015 Toyota Tacoma (2nd Gen) and 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma (3rd Gen)

Versions

Recessed Pocket Version (drink holders + 1/4 in utility tray) or The OG Version, flat

Material

Heavy-duty 1/2-inch FDA-approved HDPE with UV inhibitors

Surface

Food-safe, similar to a commercial cutting board

Color

Black

Installation

Fastens at the factory tailgate panel mounting locations; Mountain Hatch says it installs over the OEM insert.
